2008 Coachgun

The grapes were sorted, de-stemmed, and pumped to tank for an eight day cold soak at 50 degrees. The indigenous yeast fermentation lasted 14 days with a max temp of 82 degrees. Aerated pumpovers were done twice per day. When fermentation was complete, the tank was drained overnight to capture the concentrated free run wine. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in the barrel. The wine was aged in 50% new French oak Barrels and 50% once used French oak barrels and is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Petite Verdot.

This wine is in a very good place right now, with nearly six years of aging and the gratifying attitude inherent in 2008 Napa Bordeaux-style wines. Having tasted "straight" Merlot from this property, I can promise you the 22% occurrence of it in this blend is anything but "diluting". This site makes marvelously dark, fully ripe Merlot! For a dark and soothing red wine experience, get ready to savor this one! Jim
